FIRST EVER FARNHAM FLOORBALL CUP
The first ever public floorball tournament took place at Farnham's improved sports centre on Saturday 20th November. Several primary schools as well the Shooting Stars, took part. The Shooting Stars were living up to their name with some great passing and attacking moves and sure enough the sports centre's own team won the brand new trophy after winning all their matches. We hope to play another tournament next year and any schools that are interested can take part. Unfortunately it will become more difficult for schools to play extra-curricular sport with the Government having just cut funding for a typical primary school from 12 days per year to just 4, and has withdrawn all funding from the School Sports Partnerships across the country. With more than 1 in 6 British children currently being obese (ref: 2010 NHS Info Centre report) this can only be expected to rise if physical activity levels reduce.

What is Floorball?

Floorball is often described as being like icehockey just without the ice (and not as dangerous).

Do I need equipment?

In floorball all you need to play is a stick, if you don't have one of your own don't worry as at the training sesions you can borrow one of the clubs.

It is also wise to bring a bottle of water along with you as Floorball is an extremely quick sport and you can get very thirsty very quickly.

How much does it cost?

The first week is free but after that it costs 35 per school term or 14 for 4 weeks or 5 per game. And there is an annual membership fee of 15 which only had to be paid after you've played for a few weeks.
